Traffic Services
Welcome
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Traffic Services section within the State Traffic Engineering and Operations Office is responsible for establishing the standards, policies, and guidelines that govern traffic control devices and operational studies across Florida. The goal is to improve the efficiency of transportation systems, enhance safety, and ensure mobility for people and goods.
The section maintains several foundational traffic engineering documents, ensuring they align with both federal mandates and Florida‑specific statutory requirements. These include the Manual on Uniform Traffic Studies (MUTS), the Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM), the Manual on Speed Zoning for Highways, Roads, and Streets in Florida, and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
Traffic Services also manages the following Traffic Control Device Programs: Highway Signing, Pavement Markings, and Traffic Signals. In addition, the section oversees several specialized operational areas, including Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE), STRIDES to Zero, and Safe Mobility for Life.
