SMART St. Augustine

St. Augustine’s Historic District is a major regional tourism destination. Downtown is the city’s major job center with a high percentage of local jobs supporting the tourism and service industries. The intensity of this travel demand creates major, growing transportation challenges that will be addressed by the SMART St. Augustine project.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), with the City of St. Augustine and North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) aims for a citywide deployment of innovative transportation technologies that will manage congestion, improve safety, and enhance environmental sustainability to support the City’s economy.

SMART St. Augustine will be accomplished by deploying innovative transportation technologies to enhance mobility, improve safety, reduce environmental impacts, reduce the costs to operate and maintain infrastructure and provide critical connections for underserved groups to reach education, jobs, healthcare, and other social services.
