Context-Based Solutions
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) adopts Context-Based Solutions to support the statewide goal of eliminating fatalities and serious injuries on Florida’s roadways (Target Zero), and to align with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe System Approach. Context-Based Solutions is placed at the forefront of decision-making to ensure safety, reliability, and effective movement of people and goods.
Context-Based Solutions are not a specific type of project. Instead, FDOT uses context-based design to ensure that all roadway projects are context-sensitive and consider the needs of all users. This means that everything the FDOT undertakes – whether developing an entirely new corridor or resurfacing, restoring, or rehabilitating an existing road that – is done to help promote safety, enhance mobility, improve quality of life, and promote economic development. Roadway design strongly influences how people use roadways and FDOT Context-Based Solutions prioritizes placing the right road in the right place, for every Floridian.
