Bluetooth Replacement
In an effort to upgrade existing infrastructure, District Five is replacing the existing Bluetooth travel time readers with newer models capable of connected vehicle (CV) devices. Installed as part of the Active Arterial Management (AAM) efforts, over 175 existing legacy Bluetooth readers will be removed for the installation of cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) roadside units (RSU) at signalized intersections across the Central Florida region. These upgraded units will not only continue to provide traditional travel time, travel speed, and origin-destination data, but will also provide CV applications, such as Signal Phase and Timing (SPAT). In addition to RSUs, this effort will include the deployment of IPV-hubs in each traffic signal controller cabinet to provide the necessary processing and computational horsepower for advanced CV applications. This effort is currently in the planning and design phase, with hardware rollouts expected to begin in the summer of 2021.
