Fiber Optic Cable Editor training requires previous information technology (IT) or fiber management telecommunication experience with an understanding of fiber optic cable networks and various communication topologies used in ITS networks. This training includes classroom training followed by one-to-one video teleconferencing sessions as needed.

Class Duration

  • Eight-hour classroom.
  • One-on-one training time frame can take several weeks based on the student’s previous experience.

Prerequisites

  • Previous IT or fiber management telecommunication experience.
  • Advanced-level computer experience.
  • pullboxITSFM Maintainer certificate of completion.
  • Must have a backlog of data available for encoding new or updating existing fiber paths in the production system.

Hardware/Software Requirements

  • Laptop computer equipped with Internet Explorer or Chrome web browser, Skype and Google Earth.
  • Dual monitors are recommended.

Laptop Configuration Requirements

  • Students MUST verify their laptop computer is properly setup and configuration using the “Job Aid for Testing ITSFM System Config,” found in the “Resource” tab in Learning Curve.
  • Internet access.

  • Fiber associations to fiber equipment:
    • ITS devices and roadways
  • Fiber topology
    • Point-to-point, protected and collapsed rings, and multi-path distribution circuits
  • Fiber status
    • Working, dark, reserved, etc.
  • Fiber path names
    • Active backbone and distribution circuits and dark paths
    • Using Rack Manager tool:
      • Rack fiber and other equipment
  • Using Connectivity Manager tool:
    • Terminate patch panels and ethernet switches
    • Splice fiber optic cables
    • Create fiber paths
  • Perform operational test using the fiber trace tool
