Incident Response Vehicle Pilot Project (Smart Work Zone)


The FDOT District Six has installed connected arrow boards to provide real-time information to the motorists. The project includes the following features:

  • Equipping the District Six incident response vehicle fleet in Miami-Dade County with 8 connected smart arrow board components
  • Applying infrastructure-to-vehicle communications to increase the safety and efficiency of the regional transportation system
  • Utilizing real-time data to improve traffic incident management
  • Promoting awareness of traffic incidents and hazards by informing drivers of potential downstream merging conditions
  • Leveraging the use of existing traveler information dissemination platforms and applications
  • Utilizing GPS and cellular communications to transfer and exchange data in real-time
