U.S. Routes

Fall Cycle Open

The 2025 Fall Submission Cycle is now open. The deadline for applications is Friday, October 17th, close of business. Please work with your District coordinators on any revisions needed regarding Interstate, U.S. Route, and U.S. Bicycle Route modifications.

AASHTO Review

Any road modification that includes a U.S. Route MUST be approved by AASHTO prior to proceeding with local agreements, sign placement or RCI edits (this includes bicycle routes). The AASHTO Special Committee on US Route Numbering accepts application for establishments, revisions, additions, or deletions for U.S. Routes, U.S. Bicycle Routes and Interstate Routes.  The AASHTO Special Committee on U.S. Route Numbering meets twice annually (each Spring and Fall) to review and approved/disapprove U.S. route applications.

Once Central Office is informed of the submission cycle opening, a request will be sent Statewide for any requests to be initiated. U.S. Route modification require FDOT Secretary's approval/signature.

For additional U.S. Route guidance, check out page 22 of the Transportation System Jurisdiction and Numbering Handbook or the AASHTO Guidance Website. The Adventure Cycling Association is a great source of U.S. Bike Route information as well (Maps, Guidance, and Templates)
