How does the department know who to contact when acquiring property?
Land title staff will research the public land records of the counties in which our projects are located. Property owners and others who have an interest in needed properties are identified from those records.

Who will prepare the deeds and other documents for real estate closings?
The department's land title staff will prepare the necessary closing documents with oversight from the department's legal offices.

Who is responsible for closing costs?
The department will pay all closing costs. However, the land owner is responsible for any unpaid balances on mortgages, judgments, liens and real estate taxes.

What information will the department need from me as the landowner?
Any information you have about recent property transactions, mortgages, easements or other matters that may not be reflected in the public records will be helpful and appreciated.
