Current Letting and Project Information
Public
The CAV program seeks to engage public users, partners, and developers to encourage understanding of CAV technology so it is embraced as implementation increases. As stated in the CAV Business Plan, the objective of the CAV Program (and projects) is to improve safety for all transportation modes. As a testament of the program working with local agencies, the FDOT CAV program has partnered with cities such as Gainesville and Tallahassee on their signal phase and timing projects.
Advancing and implementing CAV technologies of these and others project requires that FDOT form partnerships with other developers and local agencies. FDOT has recognized this and has created funding for the Technology Applications Partnerships (TAPs-LA) initiative to encourage local agencies CAV technology implementation. Local governments, including metropolitan and transportation planning organizations, can create their CAV projects utilizing the TAPs-LA program as a resource. More information on TAPs-LA can be found here. The CAV Business Plan has also laid out project selection criteria for local agencies to consider when planning and prioritizing their projects.
A public that is knowledgeable about technology is more likely to embrace it than be fearful of it. More information about CAV can be found here.
