Amendment to FS 316.85, 316.86, 319.145, 339.175, 339.64, 316.0898, 627.0653
  • Removed restrictions of operators to manufacturers of autonomous technology
  • Removed requirement for a human operator to be present in the vehicle for testing purposes
  • Removed insurance/bond requirement
  • Added requirement for the autonomous vehicle to be capable of bringing the vehicle to a stop if the operator is not able to
  • Added requirements that MPO Long-Range Transportation Plans and FDOT’s Strategic Intermodal System Plan must consider autonomous technology
  • The Department of Transportation, in consultation with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, shall, subject to appropriation, develop the Florida Smart City Challenge Grant Program and establish grant award requirements for municipalities or regions for the purpose of receiving grant awards
  • The Office of Insurance Regulation may approve a premium discount to any rates, rating schedules, or rating manuals for the liability, personal injury protection, and collision coverages of a motor vehicle insurance policy filed with the office if the insured vehicle is equipped with autonomous driving technology or electronic vehicle collision avoidance technology that is factory installed or a retrofitted system and that complies with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration standards.
