Project Description

SR 710 corridor from west of SE 126th Boulevard to Van Buren Avenue will be reconstructed from an existing 2-lane undivided roadway to a 4-lane divided roadway (two-lanes in each direction) from west of SE 126th Boulevard to FPL Power Plant Access Road in Martin and Okeechobee counties, a total distance of approximately 10.5 miles. SR 710 is identified as a strategic intermodal system (SIS) facility moving traffic east-west throughout Palm Beach, Martin and Okeechobee Counties

The limit for this project is broken out into two segments. The limit of the first segment is SR 710 from Martin/Okeechobee County Line to FPL Power Plant Access Road (FPID: 453333-2-32-01) and the second segment extends from west of SE 126th Boulevard to Okeechobee/Martin County Line (FPID: 453333-3-32-01). The main work includes milling and resurfacing and reconstructing SR 710 to widening from two lanes to four lanes, provide new shoulders, shared use path and improvements to the following side streets: Tommy Clements Street, Farm Dairy Road, and SW Springhaven Ave.

SR 710/SW Warfield Boulevard is a two-lane (one lane in each direction), undivided, north/south roadway with a posted speed limit of 60 mph. The corridor includes 12 ft travel lanes with flushed shoulders. The roadway has a functional classification of rural principal arterial.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to enhance mobility, safety, emergency access and truck movement in Martin County. The corridor serves as a major arterial particular for freight.

The SR 710 Corridor Capacity Improvements Project will consider:

  • Widen from a 2-lane undivided roadway to 4-lane divided roadway
  • Realign the intersection between Martin Highway and SE 126th Boulevard
  • Add traffic signal to various intersections between Martin Highway and SE 126th Boulevard
  • Improve intersections to accommodate heavy truck traffic

Benefits

Enhance safety along the corridor
Increase capacity
Reduce congestion
Improve emergency response time
