Study Overview:

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is currently conducting a PD&E Study along SR 9/I-95 from north of 6th Avenue South to north of SR 704/Okeechobee Boulevard. A PD&E Study is FDOT’s process to evaluate the social, economic, and environmental impacts associated with a planned transportation improvement project. The purpose of this project is to increase capacity by adding managed lanes in each direction and alleviate congestion at the SR 9/I-95 and SR 80/Southern Boulevard interchange. Additionally, the study will assess overall corridor capacity, modal interrelationships, and safety, to identify issues that can be addressed as part of this project.

Purpose and Need

The main goal of this study is to find ways to improve corridor traffic operations and safety. The study also explores improving the pedestrians and cyclists’ experience along the SR 80/Southern Boulevard corridor. At this workshop, project alternatives will be presented consisting of additional managed travel lanes and safety enhancements to how vehicles exit the interstate at Belvedere Road. The project will enhance the community by reducing commuting travel times, improving safety by incorporating auxiliary lanes between entry and exit ramps, facilitating regional traffic and freight movement with an improved connection to SR 80/Southern Boulevard, and decreasing evacuation and emergency response times.
