Florida leads the US and world as the fastest growing, most comprehensive, and forward-facing environment for space-related development, manufacturing, and flight. To maintain this lead and provide incentives for every sector of our national space industry to locate operations in Florida, the Spaceport Office developed and administers the Spaceport Improvement Program (SIP). Since inception, the SIP has funded 48 capital infrastructure projects, generated over 4,000 permanent, high paying jobs, and contributed billions of dollars in economic value to the state. From only 16 in 2014, Florida launches increased to 93 in 2024, with more than 100 scheduled in 2025. During the same period, payloads to space increased from 125,000 to 2.7 million pounds, the total projected to exceed 4 million pounds in 2025. More than 60-percent of all global space flights are launched from Florida pads, exceeding the number of launches of every nation on Earth, and unquestionably making Florida THE Place for Space.
The Spaceports Office works with Space Florida to administer the SIP, to plan and fund strategic spaceport projects and to assist with state spaceport-related issues. SIP provides funding for projects that improve aerospace transportation facilities, encourages cooperation and integration between airports and spaceports, and facilitates and promotes interagency efforts to improve commercial space transportation capacity and efficiency. Florida’s three Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) licensed spaceports are located at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Jacksonville Aviation Authority’s Cecil Spaceport, and Titusville-Cocoa Airport Authority’s Space Coast Regional Airport and Spaceport.
The Spaceport Office is one of 5 divisions under the Modal Development Office, along with Aviation Office, Freight and Rail Office, Public Transit Office, and the Seaport Office.
