Suburban Commercial Overview

Roadways in the Suburban Commercial (C3C) Context Classification reside in non-residential areas where commercial buildings have large footprints with large parking lots. The buildings surrounding the roadway in this context are generally more than between one and four stories tall with their primary uses being retail, offices, or industrial with roadway setbacks greater than 75'. Suburban Commercial roadways have an allowable design speed of 35 - 55 mph. Several speed management techniques from the FDOT Design Manual can be implemented to encourage drivers to drive slower on roads in this context. These roadways have heavy traffic and are essential to a multiple modes of transportation. Due to the high density of commercial buildings, roadways in this context have a lot of vehicles, freight, and transit on the road. Although there are not typically a high volume of bicyclists and pedestrians utilizing roads in this context, more measures can be taken to help increase that volume by adding safety measures so that non-motorists feel more comfortable.
