Asphalt Materials
Overview
The Asphalt Materials Section provides general oversight of the Statewide Asphalt Materials Program and sets the material and production requirements, as well as Quality Assurance policies, for all asphalt mixtures, binders, and emulsions used on FDOT construction projects.
The Section develops asphalt-related specifications, operational procedures, and test methods, and oversees the development and implementation of new asphalt materials and technologies.
Our three laboratories test asphalt mixtures, binders and emulsions, and conduct research to ensure that all materials meet specification requirements to make certain that FDOT delivers high-quality asphalt pavements that will enhance long-term performance, ensure safety, and extend the service life of the transportation network.
And lastly, we provide technical support and assistance to districts, project personnel, contractors, and materials suppliers.
