How many rest areas are there in Florida?
65 Total Rest Areas, this number includes 8 Turnpike Plazas and 4 Welcome Centers.
Does Florida have Welcome Centers maintained by the state?
Yes, four (Escambia County, Jackson County, Hamilton County, and Nassau County).
Are all of Florida's rest areas on the Interstate system and the Turnpike?
Most are with the exception of the Taylor County Rest Area on US-19/US-27 and the Jackson County Welcome Center on US-231.
Can I get a Florida map at rest areas?
No, but you can get one at one of the four State Welcome Centers (Escambia County, Jackson County, Hamilton County, and Nassau County).
Are Florida's rest areas open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?
Yes with the exception of the Taylor County Rest Area on US-19/US-27, it opens at 7:00 am and closes at 7:00 pm, 7 days a week.
Do Florida's Highways have a sign on the road indicating to the public when they are approaching a rest area?
Yes, one to two miles before the entrance to the rest areas.
Can I park and sleep all night at Florida's rest areas?
Florida Administrative Code (FAC) Rule permits a period of three hours for the general public, and a period of ten hours for commercial motor vehicle operators subject to hours-of-service regulations.
Do you have vending machines at Florida's rest areas? If so, who maintains them?
Yes, the vending machines are maintained and supplied by the Department of Education, Division of Blind Services.
Who maintains the rest areas?
State of Florida Rest Areas are operated and maintained by contractors responsible for the management of the facilities, including security services.
Is it okay to use a grill at the rest areas?
According to the Florida Administrative Code (FAC), grilling at a rest area is only permissible if there are grills provided by the State of Florida in the picnic area of the facility.
Are there places to walk my dog at Florida's rest areas?
Yes, all rest areas have dog walk areas in which a dog is required to be on a leash at all times, unless the rest area has a fenced in dog park area. We request that you please clean up after your dog and clean up bags are available.
Where is the rest area in Florida that has the "Snake Wall"?
It is located in Alachua County on I-75, Southbound, just south of Gainesville. This elevated walkway, built to resemble a Florida Queen Snake, offers an observation vista of Paynes Prairie from its head.
Are there any Rest Areas on Alligator Alley in South Florida on I-75 between Naples and Ft. Lauderdale?
Yes, three; two in Collier County and one in Broward County.
Is it possible for me to set up my food truck to sell food items to the traveling public?
No, according to the Florida Administrative Code (FAC), solicitation of goods and services is not permissible in the rest areas.
Are there electrical charging stations at the rest areas for my vehicle?
At this time there are no EV charging stations at rest areas. According to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), electric vehicle charging stations would only be permissible if there is no charge to the traveling public, and they do not compromise the safety or function of the rest area facility. However, there are EV charging stations at each of the Florida's Turnpike eight Service Plazas.
