National Highway System (NHS) Maps


The National Highway System (NHS) was developed by the Department of Transportation (DOT) in cooperation with the states, local officials, and metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs). The NHS consists of roadways important to the nation's economy, defense, and mobility, and includes the following subsystems of roadways:

  • Interstate
  • Other Principal Arterials
  • Strategic Highway Network (STRAHNET)
  • Major Strategic Highway Network Connectors
  • Intermodal Connectors
