Student-Designed Bike Lane Artwork Unveiled

FDOT and its partner agencies unveiled new bike lane artwork designed by Central Florida elementary school students. The unique initiative - which spanned across six counties - promoted cycling safety as part of FDOT's Mobility Week, which promotes safe and sustainable travel choices. Winning students were each celebrated with their own bike lane artwork reveal, a certificate presentation, and a brief road safety presentation provided by FDOT representatives for their classrooms.

"Hundreds of students ride their bike to school every day in Central Florida, and it's our job to teach them about safety," said Libertad Acosta-Anderson, Passenger Operations Manager for FDOT District Five. "What better way to encourage safe cycling practices than a fun personalized piece of artwork by their school." Contest winners include:

  • Casselberry Elementary (Seminole) - Matthew Castro Rodriguez, 5th grade; Ava Quisenberry, 3rd grade
  • Geneva Elementary (Seminole) - Livia Choi, 2nd grade; Bentley Pecor, 3rd grade
  • Viera Elementary (Brevard) - Brayden Swantek, 2nd grade; Shruthi Ganesh, 5th grade
  • Lost Lake Elementary (Lake) - Ebella Eliscar, 5th grade; Paresh Rupnarain, 5th grade
  • McInnis Elementary (Volusia) - Emmanuel Luna, 1st grade; Xylia Paulino, 4th grade
  • Oakcrest Elementary (Marion) - Clementine Adkins, 2nd grade; Olivia Marr, 5th grade
  • Wadsworth Elementary (Flagler) - Annalise Quesenberry, 2nd grade; Sofia Ospanova, 4th grade

Floridians can Try Transit During Mobility Week
Mobility Week is the perfect time to explore new ways of getting around town. October 25th is Try Transit Tuesday. is your opportunity to trying a new way to travel around town safely by riding public transportation. Several transit agencies around the state are offering free fares or hosting rider appreciation events today to encourage more people to try transit. Agencies offering fare free days include:

City of Apopka Celebrates Partnership with FDOT
City of Apopka Mayor Bryan Nelson gave invited FDOT District 5 for a proclamation adopting October 21 through 28 as Mobility Week in the City of Apopka. FDOT District 5 Transit Intermodal Supervisor Jo Santiago accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Department.
