Tallahassee Street Scene 1948

Tallahassee Street Scene (25 k)

The corner of Adams Street and Jefferson Street was a busy intersection in 1948. Whether it was taking a ride on the Tallahassee Transit bus, driving on brick streets, or simply walking, people were on the move. It was during the 1940s that Tallahassee experienced its most explosive population growth. From the beginning of 1941 to the end of 1950, Leon County grew by almost two-thirds from a population of nearly 32,000 to a population of almost 52,000. Had the county sustained that rate of growth, it would be about twice as big as it is today.
