Clippers Over Miami - 1934

Clippers Over Miami (21 k)

Pan American Airways' first Sikorsky Clipper flying boats fly over Miami. Weighing 17 tons each, they were easily the largest commercial aircraft of their time. Pictured are the only ones of this model built. They were basically boats with wings attached. They had no wheels so take-off and landing was from the water. They were the first commercially successful airplanes and carried 38 passengers and a crew of six.
